Coach Maarten Stekelenburg decided to make six changes to the side that hammered Norway 6-1 in the opening game of the group which proved to be a big mistake.
After a frustrating first half which ended goalless, Netherlands failed to take advantage of their superior possession and Scotland took the lead in the 65th minute through Jack Aitchison, who then sealed the Scots win with nine minutes to go.
Netherlands remain top of the group due to their superior goal difference but with only first place enough to reach the Euros, a win against Germany is now needed in the final group game on Tuesday.
