PEC Zwolle defender Sepp van den Berg netted a 92nd-minute winner as Netherlands U19’s scraped a 2-1 win over Wales U19’s in a Euro qualifier.

With only the top team in each group heading to the Euros this summer, Netherlands could not afford any mistakes.

A strong Netherlands side that contained the likes of Feyenoord midfielder Orkun Kokcu, Ajax’s Ryan Gravenberch and Chelsea striker Daishawn Redan dominated from the start but struggled to find an opening goal.

Finally in the 26th minute, Kokcu set up Chelsea full-back Juan Familia-Castillo to open the scoring from outside the box.

However, Netherlands failed to build on their lead with Castillo hitting the post and Redan wasting a good chance after being found in the box by Kokcu.

In the 90th minute, Christian Norton found an equaliser and it appeared Wales were going to snatch a late draw. However, Bayern Munich striker Joshua Zirkzee then crossed for Sepp van den Berg to head in a late winner for Netherlands.

Its a crucial victory for Netherlands with ties against Spain and Slovenia to come. The good news for Oranje was that Spain and Slovenia drew 1-1 in the group’s other game meaning Netherlands are top of the table.
