After the last minute victory over Wales on Wednesday, Netherlands were looking for a more comfortable afternoon against Slovenia.
After only 12 minutes, Ajax left-back Mitchel Bakker sent in a perfect cross for Feyenoord defender Lutsharel Geertruida to net the opener.
However, Slovenia, who drew with Spain in their opening game, then made life difficult for Oranje and the match stayed tense heading into the latter stages.
With a minute left, Netherlands were awarded a penalty and Chelsea’s Juan Familia-Castillo made no mistake to seal the victory.
Netherlands are now top of the group on six points and two ahead of Spain. They go head to head on Wednesday with the winner heading to the European Championships. A draw would be enough for Netherlands.
