A defeat to Scotland and draw with England in the first two qualifiers have left Netherlands already facing an uphill struggle to qualify for the 2019 U21 European Championships.
Friday’s tie with Belarus was a must win tie, and Art Langeler’s side got off to a good start with Oussama Idrissi’s shot too strong for the visitors goalkeeper on 17 minutes. Steven Bergwijn added a second on 35 minutes before Bart Ramselaar netted a penalty just before the break to make it 3-0.
Netherlands dominated the second half but failed to add any further goals. Importantly, though, Jong Oranje are now up and running in the qualifying campaign and head to Ukraine on Tuesday with some confidence.
