Netherlands U21’s finished their unsuccessful European Championship qualifying campaign with a comfortable 3-0 victory over Ukraine.

The victory over Latvia last week meant that Netherlands went into the game on Tuesday knowing a win would see them finish second in the group behind England. Finishing as one of the top runners-up was not possible.

Jong Oranje started brightly and took the lead in the 21st minute when Richairo Zivkovic set up Justin Kluivert to net the opener. Three minutes later, a corner was finished off by Zivkovic for Netherlands second after Justin Hoogma’s header came back off the post.

Erwin van de Looi’s side remained in control and after Kluivert hit the post, Zivkovic made it 3-0 in the 78th minute after good work from substitute Donyell Malen.

The result means Netherlands finish second but it’s a third European Championship in a row that Jong Oranje have missed out on. Losses home and away to Scotland proved to be crucial in a tight group.
