Netherlands U21’s ended their European Championship qualifying campaign with a slender 1-0 victory over Wales. Netherlands were aleady assured of their place in next years competition.

Switzerland’s 1-1 draw in Moldova in midweek ensured Netherlands would take their spot at next year’s Euros with a game to spare.

Erwin van de Looi still decided to start with a strong eleven for the final group game against Wales with Brian Brobbey, Sven Botman and Joshua Zirkzee all starting.

Netherlands were the stronger side but they could not find the lead in the opening stages. Brobbey had a goal disallowed after the break, while the Wales crossbar was also hit.

It appeared that the game was heading for a 0-0 but in the final minutes, Milan van Ewijk set up Lutsharel Geertruida for his first international goal at this level.

Netherlands finish the group stages with a victory and can start to prepare for next year’s tournament.
