Netherlands U21’s suffered a 4-1 defeat against Belgium U21’s in a friendly held in Doetinchem.

Art Langeler handed debut’s to Teun Koopmeiners, Arnout Groeneveld and Pelle Clement for the tie but after only three minutes Jong Oranje found themselves behind. A long ball wasn’t dealt with by Justin Bijlow which allowed Willem II’s Obbi Oularé to head into an empty net.

Netherlands controlled the rest of the first half and thought they had netted an equaliser through Bart Ramselaar but it was ruled out for a handball by Pelle van Amersfoort.

Early in the second half, Groenenveld did equalise with a low strike after an excellent piece of trickery on the edge of the box. Netherlands put pressure on Belguim, but on the hour mark the visitors regained their lead with Dion Cools beating Bijlow.

Soon afterwards, Julian N’Goy added a third before Alexis De Sart wrapped up the win for Belgium late on.

Netherlands now head to Andorra in a must-win Euro qualifier on Tuesday.
