Netherlands found themselves unseeded for Friday’s draw after defeats to both Slovakia and Georgia in the past few weeks saw Adrie Koster’s side finish second in their group. They will now need to beat Portugal over two legs if they are to make it to the tournament in the Czech Republic next summer.
Portugal, coached by former international Rui Jorge, were the only nation to make it through the group stages without losing a single point after winning all eight of their matches.
Coach Adrie Koster will be hoping to steal Memphis Depay, Stefan de Vrij, Bruno Martins Indi, and Davy Klaassen back from the full Netherlands squad for the two matches, but with Guus Hiddink’s side making a poor start to their European Championship qualifying campaign they may be needed against Kazakhstan and Iceland.
The first leg will be played on the 9th of October in AZ Alkmaar’s AFAS stadion before the second leg a week later in Portugal.
I think the players what Coach Adrie Koster wanted should be made available for them as there are enough cover for the senior squad….We should be ! As if we don’t make it to the 2015 U21 euro..that is not very good for oranje future. we need the exposure and test our standard among europe best in preparation for providing young guns to supplement the senior squad in euro 2016.
