Netherlands women are European Champions after a 4-2 win over Denmark in Enschede.

The final was incredibly open from the start and after only six minutes, Kika van Es stuck out her foot to bring down Sanne Troelsgaard-Nielsen in the box, earning Denmark a penalty. Nadia Nadim made no mistake from the spot to make it 1-0.

However, Netherlands responded quickly and were level only four minutes later with Shanice van de Sanden setting up Vivianne Miedema to net the equaliser. On the half hour mark, Lieke Martens, who was awarded player of the tournament, fired Netherlands in front with a lovely strike into the bottom corner. Back came Denmark a few minutes later, through Pernille Harder who found the bottom corner to make it 2-2 at the break.

The second half started like the first but it was Netherlands who started to take control and Sherida Spitse found the corner with a smart free kick to make it 3-2. Netherlands then passed up chances to seal the victory but any nerves were calmed late on as Miedema netted a fourth to seal the victory.

A dream tournament for hosts Netherlands who won all six matches and lift their first ever major trophy.
