Netherlands women have finished 11th in the Algarve Cup after defeating China on penalties. The match finished 1-1 in regular time.

The Algarve cup has been disappointing for Sarina Wiegman after defeats against Spain and Poland, meaning Netherlands were battling for 11th place on Wednesday evening.

With Lieke Martens making her 100th international appearance, Netherlands struggled to break the deadlock until moments before the break when Vivianne Miedema tapped in from close range.

Netherlands failed to build on their lead and ten minutes into the second half, Yao Wei equalised for China.

Before the end, Martens was denied the winner by Chinese keeper Peng Shimeng while Renate Jansen hit the bar.

The match went to penalties and despite Sherida Spitse hitting the post, Netherlands won 4-2 to take 11th spot.
