Netherlands went into the final group game one point behind Iceland and they knew they had to win to seal a spot in the World Cup.
Andries Jonker’s side somehow didn’t score in the first half as Daniëlle van de Donk, Renate Jansen and Stefanie van der Gragt all hit the woodwork. Jackie Groenen and Vivianne Miedema also went close but a goal did not come.
Netherlands continued to dominate after the break but Iceland almost punished their misses as Sveindís Jane Jónsdóttir had a great chance to score. Luckily for Netherlands she couldn’t find the net.
It seemed it was going to end 0-0 but in the 93rd minute, Esmee Brugts sent a cross into the box and it evaded everyone and found the net.
Netherlands have sealed their place in next year’s World Cup.
Well done girls………congrats
They deserved this win Kudos!
