Lieke Martens netted a crucial last-minute winner as Netherlands defeated Slovakia 1-0 to remain on course for the 2019 World Cup.

Netherlands dominated from the start in Heerenveen but failed to take their chances with Shanice van de Sanden, Martens and Sherida Spitse missing decent chances.

Slovakia continued to frustrate the hosts in the second half but finally the breakthrough came in the final minute when Martens cut in from the left before firing into the far corner.

The win moves Netherlands four points ahead of Norway at the top of the group with only one game left for Oranje. Norway have a game in hand but crucially on September 2nd, Netherlands head to Scandinavia in what looks like a winner take all game.

Top spot goes straight to the World Cup, while second heads into the playoffs.
