Zivkovic signed the deal to leave Groningen for Ajax last week, with the Eredivisie champions paying around €2 million for the highly rated 17-year-old, who has netted seven times in the league this season.
The deal brings back memories of Luis Suarez, who left Groningen to sign for Ajax in 2007 before going on to net 111 goals in 159 appearances with the Amsterdam club.
A move to Liverpool then followed for Suarez, with the Uruguayan now one of the most prolific strikers in Europe, scoring 28 goals in 29 games so far this season.
Speaking to ANP about the former Ajax star, Zivkovic said, “To be just as good as Suarez, yeah, that’s the goal”
Although he is delighted at signing for Ajax, the youngster wants to remain focused on the remainder of the season with Groningen.
Zivkovic added, “When you are 17 you sign a contract with Ajax. Who would not want that?”
“But enough about Ajax. I still play for FC Groningen and this club want to finish in the playoffs for a European place”
