De Jong stated recently that he was now ready to leave Borussia Monchengladbach this January after failing to win a place in the starting eleven.
The Dutchman is yet to score a single goal in the Bundesliga this season, or even have a shot on target, and despite paying €12 million in 2012 for the striker, Gladbach are believed to be willing to sell.
Newcastle United, Stoke City, and PSV Eindhoven have all been linked with loan deals for the 24-year-old, but it seems the Magpies are the favourites.
According to both Sky Sports, and the Telegraph, Newcastle United are confident of completing a loan deal for De Jong before the end of the transfer window. Negotiations are ongoing between Newcastle, and Gladbach, but the Premier League side believe the deal will be done.
Newcastle have been chasing De Jong ever since he was at Twente, but the forward rejected them in favour of a move to the Bundesliga.
