toivonen dThe Swedish international is out of contract in the summer, and after refusing to sign a new deal with PSV, a move in January is the most likely option.

According to the Mirror, Newcastle United are hoping to offer £2.5 million in January, and are hoping that PSV will accept the cut price deal.

In the summer, Norwich City had an offer of over £5 million accepted for Toivonen, but could not agree personal terms with the midfielder.

Even though PSV coach Phillip Cocu threatened Toivonen with reserve team football if he did not sign a new deal, the Swede has featured 12 times for the club this season, but with only one goal.

Since joining PSV in 2009, Toivonen has appeared in 125 league matches, scoring 59 times, whilst netting 6 times for Sweden in 35 matches.

Fiorentina and Fulham have also been credited with interest in Toivonen, and could join Newcastle with interest in January.
