The Journal is reporting that the Icelandic goal machine is Newcastle’s top priority for January, as they seek to add another striker to their squad.
Scouts from the Premier league side are said to be attending Iceland’s two World Cup qualifiers this week to take a closer look at the prolific Heerenveen star. According to the Journal, Finnbogason was offered to Newcastle during the summer for a fee of around €5 million, but decided to look elsewhere.
Heerenveen director Gaston Sporre spoke of his determination to keep Finnbogason in the squad, as he rejected offers from Celtic, and Augsburg for the striker.
However with the club currently running at a loss, a big bid in January may just temp them to part with their prized asset, especially since they have brought in another striker, Uche Nwofor, on loan.
After scoring 28 times in 33 matches during last season, the 24 year old has started the current campaign on fire, finding the net six times in only four games.
If Finnbogason continues at such a lethal rate, their may be a bidding war by the time January comes round.
