.Newcastle are set to appoint former FC Twente boss Steve McClaren as their head coach this week, and attentions will then turn to summer recruits with the club reportedly looking to sign six to seven players.

According to the Evening Chronicle one of those players is Dutch midfielder Marco van Ginkel, who returns to Chelsea this summer after an impressive loan spell with AC Milan in Italy.

After losing a lot of playing time through injuries over the past two seasons, Van Ginkel has stressed that he is looking for constant first team football next season, and that is unlikely at Chelsea.

The Premier League champions could loan or sell the 22-year-old this summer and Newcastle will look to swoop, although they will face competition from AC Milan, who have confirmed their interest in resigning the former Vitesse star.
