Viergever stated that he is ready to fight for the left back position in Oranje and also spoke of his disappointment after missing Ajax’s Europa league final with Manchester United.
Viergever said, ”I was gutted to miss the Europa League final. You don’t get to play many finals in a career as a footballer and when you miss it through suspension it is difficult to take. It was frustrating for me on the day of the final I was sat near the Ajax dugout but we didn’t win and we finished the season without a trophy.
”Our journey to the Europa League final was beautiful also for me personally. It’s a shame that we could not get a handle on Manchester United and make a game of the final.
On Netherlands, he said, ”I am motivated here away on international duty and we hope to make it a good week in terms of friendlies.
”I played all the games for Ajax in recent weeks leading up to the end of the season and I now have to show my worth at international level. I am ready to find for the left back spot in Oranje.
”I have played around 50 European games at club level and it’s great experience that holds me in good stead for the future.”
