Feyenoord dropped further behind the top two after being held to a 2-2 draw at ADO Den Haag.

After the shock defeat at home to Fortuna Sittard last weekend, Feyenoord headed to the Kyocera Stadion looking for a crucial victory to keep pace with the top two.

However, it was ADO Den Haag who started brightly and Nasser El Khayati curled a free-kick past Justin Bijlow to give them the lead after only four minutes.

ADO Den Haag missed a host of chances to make it 2-0 and on the stroke of half-time Feyenoord made them pay when Robin van Persie crossed for Steven Berghuis to fire in the equaliser.

Van Persie and Nieuwkoop missed good chances early in the second half but in the 68th minute, Sam Larsson curled a strike in off the post to give the visitors the lead.

Feyenoord wanted to see out the match but in the 77th minute, a ball over the top set Tom Beugelsdijk through. Nieuwkoop tried to stop the defender but brought him down and was shown his second yellow card. A free-kick on the edge of the box was initially given but after consulting VAR, it was turned into a penalty, which El Khayati slotted in to make it 2-2.

ADO searched for a winner but Feyenoord held on for the point which means they are now ten points behind second-placed Ajax. ADO Den Haag sit 11th.
