Feyenoord are now 22 points behind leaders PSV Eindhoven after a 3-1 defeat at Vitesse Arnhem.

Feyenoord, who lost Ridgeciano Haps to injury early on, made a bright start to the game and took the lead in the 21st minute when a swift counter ended with an unmarked Tonny Vilhena slotting past Remko Pasveer.

However, Vitesse then gained control and after Matt Miazga hit the bar, Guram Kashia equalised just before the break from Mason Mount’s cross.

It all went wrong or Feyenoord in the second half. Bilal Basacikoglu was shown a red card for a hard challenge on Thulani Serero on 65 minutes and moments later Vitesse had the lead. Bryan Linssen netted after a failed attempt by Mount.

On 81 minutes, Feyenoord were reduced to nine men with Tyrell Malacia shown red for a challenge on Roy Beerens. Linssen then sealed Vitesse’s win by adding a third on 86 minutes.

Feyenoord remain fourth but are eight points adrift of AZ Alkmaar in third. Vitesse sit 7th.
