Steven Bergwijn has revealed that he promised Abdelhak Nouri’s brother that he would score on his Tottenham Hotspur debut two weeks ago.

Bergwijn and Nouri met in the Ajax academy and became really close friends. They remained that way even after Bergwijn made the switch to PSV Eindhoven.
Speaking to The Guardian, Bergwijn was asked about the moment Nouri suffered a cardiac arrest in 2017, “My world collapsed. When I heard that Appie had suffered brain damage … I can’t describe what I felt then.
“I didn’t get much sleep during that period. In the first few weeks I was scared to go on the field, scared to play. Appie was just a young guy and this really happened out of the blue. It was very difficult. And it still is. I still talk to his brother every day, but it is and remains difficult. “
Bergwijn revealed that he received a message from Mohammed Nouri before his Tottenham debut two weeks ago, “He said you will score for Appie . And I answered: okay, watch it, I will score . And I did too. “
The winger had a dream debut as he scored the opening goal in a 2-0 victory over Manchester City.
