The winger was close to joining Toulouse last week, but the French club couldn’t agree a deal with Benfica, which has allowed Wolves to swoop. John will undergo a medical with the club on Thursday before his loan for the rest of the season is confirmed.
John has extended his contract with Benfica by a year, but Wolves have agreed a fixed fee of €8 million to make the loan permanent should the attacker impress this season.
John joined Benfica from Twente back in 2012, but hasn’t established himself with the Portuguese giants. He spent last season on loan with Reading, where he made 28 appearances and scored four goals.
