Ajax director of football affairs Marc Overmars has stated that Frenkie de Jong will not be departing Amsterdam in January.

The 21-year-old was heavily linked with Barcelona this summer but Ajax refused the Catalan’s offer believed to be around €30 million, while English side Tottenham’s €50 million offer was also refused.

Speaking at the Annual, Ajax kick-off event, Marc Overmars confirmed that Barcelona’s bid did not come close to their expectations and stated De Jong would be staying until at least next summer.

He said, “Barcelona did not value De Jong enough.

“Barcelona may return for Frenkie in January, but players will not leave in that period.”
