AZ Alkmaar striker Vangelis Pavlidis is among the nominees for this year’s Puskas Award.

The 25-year-old is among the 11 players nominated for the Puskas Award, which honours the best goal of the year.

On the final day of last season, Pavlidis scored a wonder goal for Willem II against Fortuna Sittard. The Greek international picked up the ball far from goal, slalomed through several defenders and then found the net with a lovely finish.

Pavlidis face competition from the likes of Eric Lamela (Tottenham), Riyad Mahrez (Manchester City), and Patrik Schick, who scored from the halfway line for the Czech Republic against Scotland during the Euros.

Fans can vote for their favourite goal on the FIFA website. Those votes will count for half of the vote with a panel of experts also picking their favourite. The winner will be announced at a ceremony on the 17th of January.
