The first half was played at a high tempo, but neither side created any real noteworthy chances, with a free kick from Maikel van der Werff saved by Utrecht keeper Jeroen Verhoeven the only real chance of the match.
Utrecht played mostly on the counter, with Steve De Ridder running onto a through ball by Ayoub, before the ball was smothered by Zwolle keeper Kevin Begois.
Five minutes into the second half, Utrecht had the lead, when a free kick was swung in by Jens Toornstra, and Willem Janssen rose to power a header past Begois.
Zwolle went searching for the equaliser, as Fred Benson headed over in the box, and Jesper Drost saw a half volley saved by Verhoeven.
The equaliser finally came on 75 minutes, when Drost pulled the ball across the box for substitute Stef Nijland to scuff the ball past Verhoeven.
Neither side could find a winner, as they both settled for a point a piece, which keeps PEC Zwolle at the top, while after a shaky start to the season, Utrecht are starting to come into some form.
