Twente began the game strongly and after only eight minutes they took the lead with Dylan Seys shot taking a deflection off Ted van de Pavert and giving Mickey van der Hart no chance.
The home side were left incensed on the half hour mark when they weren’t awarded a penalty for handball in the box by the goalscorer Seys. However, before the break they did equalise with Queensy Menig finishing Kinglesy Ehizibue’s cross.
Early in the second half the momentum turned hugely in PEC Zwolle’s favour as Bersant Celina was shown a red card. However, despite the man advantage, it was Twente who found the winning goal thanks to an error from van der Hart. The goalkeeper raced out of his goal to clear the ball but it landed at the feet of Assaidi, who wonderfully dinked his finish into the net from 30 yards. It was the first goal back in the Eredivisie for the former Heerenveen and Liverpool attacker, who signed for Twente earlier this month.
In the final minute, Bram van Polen had an excellent chance to equalise, but the defender got his connection all wrong and Twente held on for the three points. The win keeps Twente in eighth while PEC Zwolle are 16th.
