PEC Zwolle proved too strong for 10-man Go Ahead Eagles in the IJsselderby.

pec-zwoll-go-aheAfter a turbulent start to the season, PEC Zwolle’s form has improved dramatically in the past month, with Ron Jans side winning three and drawing one of their last four matches. Heading into the IJsselderby, PEC Zwolle were full of confidence, and after only a minute they had the lead as Queensy Menig raced onto a long ball before lifting his shot over Theo Zwarthoed and into the net.

Go Ahead Eagles came into the game on the back of an embarrassing 2-1 defeat in the cup to amateur side Joden Boys, but their heads didn’t drop after the early setback and they equalised in the 41st minute. Defender Sander Fischer found the top corner with an acrobatic finish inside the box.

The hosts regained their lead ten minutes into the second half through Mustafa Saymak, who was allowed space in the midfield to move towards the Go Ahead Eagles area and he found the top corner with an excellent strike.

In the 89th minute, substitute Anass Achahbar raced through on goal only to be tripped by Fischer just outside the box. The defender was shown a straight red card and Danny Holla curled the resulting free kick into the top corner to seal the victory for PEC Zwolle.

The win moves PEC Zwolle to tenth while Go Ahead drop to 17th.
