PEC Zwolle came away from FC Emmen with a much-needed 1-0 victory.

John van ‘t Schip’s PEC Zwolle have had a poor start to the campaign with four defeats in their opening five games, but they started brightly at FC Emmen, who were yet to win at home.

In the fourth minute, Thomas Lam missed a great chance before Vito van Crooij was denied by Kjell Scherpen in the Emmen goal. Eventually, PEC Zwolle did take the lead on the half-hour mark with Rick Dekker finding the net after a deflection fooled Scherpen.

Before the break, Emmen came close to an equaliser with Mickey van der Hart making an excellent save to deny Michael Chacon, while Luciano Slagveer also passed up a good chance.

In the second half, Emmen went looking for an equaliser, but they failed to find a way past van der Hart with Jafar Arias missing an excellent chance. At the other end, Scherpen prevented Stanley Elbers from making it 2-0.

PEC Zwolle have their second win of the season and move 14th. Emmen are 10th.
