PEC Zwolle eased to a 5-0 victory over 10-man Fortuna Sittard and are now almost guaranteed to be safe from relegation.

Fortuna managed to keep the home side at bay until just after the half-hour mark when everything went wrong for the visitors.

In the 33rd minute, Vito van Crooij fired PEC Zwolle ahead and moments later, Fortuna were reduced to ten men. Branislav Ninaj was shown a straight red card for a last-man challenge. A penalty was originally given but VAR intervened and it was a free-kick instead, which came to nothing.

With an extra-man the second half was a stroll for PEC Zwolle. Younes Namli made it 2-0 on 50 minutes before Lennart Thy added a third soon afterwards thanks to good work by Pelle Clement.

Mike van Duinen’s header made it 4-0 in the 61st minute and Thy got his second from close range for the fifth and final goal.

PEC Zwolle climb up to 11th and are now nine points above the bottom three with five games left. Fortuna Sittard are 14th and only four points above 16th.
