PEC Zwolle climbed out of the bottom three after a 2-1 win at VVV Venlo.

VVV had improved in recent weeks under interim boss Jay Driessen, who revealed before kick-off that Hans de Koning will become the club’s new head coach.

However, it was PEC Zwolle who began the game on top and they had the lead in the 11th minute when Kenneth Paal found the top corner from the edge of the box.

Thirteen minutes later it was 2-0 as Thomas Lam found Pelle Clement with a great long ball and the midfielder calmly slotted past Thorsten Kirschbaum.

PEC Zwolle had plenty of chances to kill the game after that with Vito van Crooy hitting the bar. However they didn’t add a third and VVV remained in the game.

Aaron Bastiaans came off the bench and in the 77th minute, the 17-year-old pulled one back for the hosts after slotting in Jerome Sinclair’s cross.

VVV then pushed for the equaliser but PEC Zwolle held on for the three points. They move up to 14th, while VVV are 16th.
