PEC Zwolle came from behind to record a 2-1 win over Heerenveen in the Abe Lenstra Stadion.

Heerenveen went into the game on the back of their 4-0 win over FC Twente last weekend and they looked confident from the start on Saturday. On 13 minutes, Stijn Schaars chipped the ball into the path of Michael Vlap who arrowed a volley into the bottom corner to give the hosts an early lead.

Vlap should have made it 2-0 when he was played in on goal by Martin Ödegaard but the midfielder was denied this time by Diederik Boer. The miss proved crucial as PEC Zwolle equalised just before the break when Nicolas Freire headed in a Younes Mokhtar free kick.

Early in the second half, PEC Zwolle took the lead through Mustafa Saymak, who slotted in on the rebound after Warner Hahn kept out Kingsley Ehizibue’s first effort.

Heerenveen went in search of the equaliser, but Reza Ghoochannejhad hit the side netting, while Ödegaard and substitute Henk Veerman also missed good opportunities. At the other end, Saymak hit the bar as PEC Zwolle held on to claim victory.

The win lifts PEC Zwolle back above Feyenoord and into fourth, while Heerenveen drop to ninth.
