pelle dA few weeks ago Ronald Koeman decided to strip Stefan de Vrij of the captain’s armband and hand it to top striker Graziano Pelle. The manager didn’t give reasons for his decision, but the defender has come under some criticism after some shaky performances so far this season.

Graziano Pelle has now come out, and stated that Stefan de Vrij doesn’t need to have the captains armband to be the leader of the team.

He told Feyenoord TV, “When I first came here, I saw Stefan as a typical captain. He is quiet, nice and did what a captain should do,”

“The coach decided otherwise, however. This period for Stefan is a good education, where he in the future will benefit greatly from it. He can be captain everywhere”

“I try to talk to everyone and to convey the Italian winning mentality, that means playing with passion and in a positive way. That’s the main reason I’m captain, I think.”
