Bosz said, ”I thought it was a very strange game. We did not start well the first 15 – 20 minutes. Lyon put us under pressure and therefore we gave away a lot of possession. What has been a regular feature for us this season is that often our first 2 chances in games are goals and then you are 2-0 up.

”The fans were amazing tonight and they helped us to push on and create chances in which we managed to convert four of them. It could have even been 7-3 or even 8-4.

”We have a fantastic starting position for the 2nd leg in Lyon. We have not achieved anything yet and we must put in a fantastic performance in Lyon in order to reach the final.

”I am proud of my team and the fans of Ajax have seen many open home games this season. We played attacking, attractive football and that is what Ajax is all about. We want to win and also do that in an attractive way.

”We believe that attack is the best form of defense and we have shown this season that we do concede too many goals. We play football for the fans and show that you can score 4 goals against a great side like Olympique Lyon.

Despite his side’s lead, Bosz had a warning that the tie is far from over, ”I believe that Olympique Lyon have a good team and you have seen in the away leg against FC Schalke 04 that a 2-0 lead was also not enough in terms of taking it easy in the 2nd leg.

”This tie is far from over and we plan on putting in a good performance v Olympique Lyon in France.”
