The winger missed the decisive penalty in Utrecht’s KNVB Cup defeat to Cambuur on Wednesday and 24 hours later he was no longer part of the club, joining fellow Eredivisie side Heracles on a contract until 2019.

The Almelo club have been on the lookout for a new forward this month after struggling in front of goal this season, and they see the 22-year-old as a versatile option for their attack.

Peterson was signed by Utrecht in 2014 from Liverpool and made 34 appearances for the club, scoring four times.
