PSV’s relationship with Philips is the longest sponsor relationship in world football, but the electrical giants name will no longer appear over the red and white stripes of the Eindhoven club.
Ever since Dutch football became professional, PSV have plastered Philips over their shirts, but when their current deal ends in 2016 the club will seek a new and more lucrative sponsor for their kits.
Despite the decision Philips will still act as a major sponsor for the club, which was started in 1913 for the workers of the company, and they will still provide €3-4 million each year, down from the usual €6 million.
PSV are also looking for a replacement for other kit sponsor Freo, who’s name has been on the back of the clubs shirts for several years for an annual fee of €1.4 million.
