Cocu stated that although PSV Eindhoven suffered an unexpected defeat in the Europa League he is convinced that he can still affect his players as he targets at 3rd Eredivisie title in 5 years.
He said, ”I believe that we can win the Eredivisie this season. A club like PSV Eindhoven must always set the target of winning the league.
”I believe it was a disgrace to be eliminated from Europe so early and we are feeling embarrassed about it.
”We are wrestling with our charisma at the moment and we are together as a squad. We trained really well today and obtained a high level and you can see that the players have fun playing with one another.
”I can still affect my players. We have a lot of quality in our squad and a lot of young and eager players too and we must now perform on the pitch starting on Saturday at home to AZ Alkmaar.
”I am convinced I can still affect my players. When you have the feeling as a manager that is not the case then it is time to drawn your own conclusions which I would be willing to do if such a situation arose.”
Cocu also spoke about the situation regarding Luuk de Jong, who could be leaving PSV with Crystal Palace and Hannover interested. He said, ”We did not want to force Luuk De Jong to the exit door. But he had a difficult year in Eindhoven last season and if he can find a new challenge he must be open to possibilities.”
