Cocu lamented his side for not showing enough bottle in the defeat which sees Ajax close the gap on them to seven points.

He said, ”We deserved nothing from the game today. To lose 3-0 away to Ajax is a bad defeat. We did not do enough to get something out of the game.

”In the first-half, we appeared to want to force things too much and ended up playing long balls instead of play possession football on the floor.

”We did not show enough bottle today. We improved slightly in the second half but conceding three goals in quick succession meant that we gave the game away.

”Even when we came out of our shell we did not create enough chances. We must keep working hard as a team. This Eredivisie title is by no means finished.

”We have often benefited from competitors dropping points so far this season and we ourselves have suffered a defeat today allowing teams to gain ground and get closer to us.

”We have to put things right in our next league game and show a reaction away to FC Groningen on Wednesday.”
