The American national team is trying to convince Heerenveen defender Kik Pierie to switch his allegiances from the Netherlands. However, the youngster is not ready to make a final choice yet.

The 18-year-old centre-back was born in Boston but has lived his life in the Netherlands and has represented Oranje at various age levels.

Speaking to Voetbal International, Pierie has confirmed that the American football association has been in touch but is not willing to make a final choice yet.

He said, “There has been contact, because the American Federation of course also knows that I was born there and therefore have an American passport. But of course, I am also completely Dutch.

“Everybody suddenly asks me what I’m going to do, but it’s not an item now.

“You do not know how a career is going. Suppose I am approached by America in four years and not by the Netherlands, where do I choose? I am, of course, Dutch with a Dutch family, but playing for a beautiful sports country like America is also fantastic. “

Currently captain of Netherlands U19 side, Pierie has made 45 appearances for Heerenveen.
