Netherlands smashed eight past a hopeless Hungary side, and should have scored more in a dominant display, with Robin van Persie bagging a record breaking hat-trick.\
Playe ratings as follows:
Michael Vorm- 7/10
Had very little to do throughout the match, and could do nothing about the penalty. Made a few good stops, especially from a Dzsudzsak free-kick in the first half.
Daryl Janmaat- 8/10
Set up the opening goal with a great cross, and was always looking to get forward and join in the attacks. Nearly scored, but saw his effort come back of the post.
Daley Blind 7/10
Solid in defence, and going forward, but did not contribute as much as Janmaat on the other flank. Good performance for the Ajax man.
Ron Vlaar 8/10
Was great in defence, and dominated Hungary’s striker Krizstian Nemeth. Will have busier days in international football, but was good in everything he did.
Jeffrey Bruma 7/10
Saw his early effort cleared off the line, and conceded the penalty with a handball in the second half. Otherwise untroubled, and helped Vlaar control the defence.
Nigel de Jong 8/10
Brilliant display by the returning De Jong, who controlled the midfield, and seemed to win every challenge he went for. Wont have been noticed much, but did his job excellently.
Rafael van der Vaart 7/10
Quiet game for the Hamburg man, but scored in the second half with a deflected free kick, whilst also having an effort well saved in the first 45. Unspectacular but efficient.
Kevin Strootman 8/10
Another great performance by Strootman, who is relishing his role in the national team. Great passing throughout, scored with a good header, and hit the bar with a curling shot
Arjen Robben 9/10
Caused Hungary constant problems, and scored a great free kick late on to put icing on a terrific display. Also set up Van Persie’s second with a great lobbed cross.
Jeremain Lens 8/10
Had an early effort ruled out harshly, but did eventually score. Set up Strootman’s goal, and had numerous opportunities to net further goals. A good display from Dynamo Kiev winger.
Robin van Persie 10/10
Now Netherlands all time top scorer, after scoring a hat-trick, and although all the goals were simple finishes, Van Persie deserves full marks for his display. Suffered with injury before the match, but it never showed, and he deserved his round of applause when replaced late on.
Substitutes:
Dirk Kuyt 5/10
Came on for Van Persie, and put in a decent display, but made no real impact going forward.
Leroy Fer 5/10
Had no real time to make an impact, but good to see the Norwich man back in the international fold.
