Speaking at his pre-match press conference on Friday, Pochettino called the former Ajax centre-back one of the best in the Premier League and believes he will go on to become of the best in the world.
He said, “He’s so clever, he’s very humble and he’s very open to learn.
“He’s a player when you tell him something his reaction is to be open and be critical with himself and that is a massive skill from a player.
“When he’s so open to improve, then the conditions are amazing to be one of the best centre-halves in the world.
“You saw against Borussia Dortmund how many times he was with Aubameyang one v one. I think not many centre-backs in the world can do this.
“At 21 he showed he is so brave. He takes risks but he is not reckless. I am so happy with him. He’s one of the best today but has the potential to get even better.
The Spurs manager’s praise is all the more important considering that Sanchez not only arrived in summer but bears the weight of being the North London club’s record signing – the 21 year old moved from Ajax in August for a reported £42 million.
The Colombian, Ajax’s player of the season last year, has slotted effectively into a defensively three alongside former De Toekomst alumni Jan Vertonghen and Toby Aldeweireld, making 10 league appearances so far with an impressive record of 5 clean sheets.
