Adrie Poldervaart has left his post as head coach of Excelsior after their 2-1 defeat at home to NAC Breda on Wednesday.

Excelsior are now only one point above the bottom three after Wednesday’s poor defeat and the fears of relegation have led Poldervaart to hand in his notice.

A statement on the Excelsior website by Poldervaart read, “The reason is that, in my opinion and feeling, I can no longer reach the group. The club interest is now paramount and that is why I have decided to surrender my contract. Excelsior is the most important thing. “

Poldervaart was Excelsior physio for 25 years before taking charge of the club last summer when Mitchell van der Gaag left for NAC Breda.
