Quincy Promes netted a second half hat-trick as Ajax defeated Fortuna Sittard 5-0.

The game was originally planned for late August but was moved due to Ajax’s European commitments. Erik ten Hag decided to start with Donny van de Beek, while Ravzan Marin also made the starting line-up.

Ajax dominated as expected but they struggled to find a way through a compact Fortuna defence. After 35 minutes, the visitors even got the biggest chance of the first-half but Daley Blind came to the rescue and cleared Bassala Sambou’s effort off the line.

Erik ten Hag was not happy with his side’s performance and brought on Klaas Jan Huntelaar at half-time for Edson Alvarez.

Five minutes into the second half, Ajax led when Dusan Tadic set up Quincy Promes to fire past Alexei Koselev. Three minutes later, David Neres doubled the lead with a tap in from close range after Promes and Huntelaar were denied.

Promes got his second on 68 minutes with an easy finish after Koselev had kept out Marin’s strike.

A Cian Harris Own goal then made it 4-0 before Promes wrapped up his hat-trick from close range in the 83rd minute.

Ajax remains top of the table after the victory while Fortuna Sittard are down in 17th.
