It has been a hectic week for Promes, who was arrested last Sunday on suspicion of involvement in a stabbing. He was then released but remains a suspect.
Ajax have stuck by the winger and he came on in the second half of Ajax’s 4-2 win over ADO Den Haag.
Afterwards, he was asked for an interview by Fox Sports, “Yes, why not? I have nothing to hide.
“It was nice to play football again,” said Promes. “I also played a week ago, so it was not that long ago in terms of time frame, but it was nice to put the focus back on football and leave the peripheral issues behind. It was a shock for everyone, but I am glad I was released so quickly. I can’t say more about it.
“I’m just as shocked as the rest of the world. It is something from my private life, I cannot say more about it. But I am now free and I think that says enough. It’s nice that the club supports me: not only Erik ten Hag, but also my teammates, for example. It feels good that people believe in me, that helps me a lot. I don’t want to waste any more energy on peripheral matters. It is a difficult situation for everyone, but we have to look to the future because we can still influence it. What has happened has happened.”
