Almere City came away from Cambuur Leeuwarden with a 2-2 draw in the first leg of their promotion playoff.

Almere City went into the playoffs on the back of a 8-0 hammering by Jong Ajax but after 16 minutes they took the lead against Cambuur.

Anwar Bensabouh’s shot from distance surprised goalkeeper Pieter Bos, who replaced the injured Xavier Mous in the warm-up.

Cambuur recovered from the setback and equalised before the break through Emmanuel Mbende.

However, on the hour-mark, Almere City restored their lead as Stijn Meijer netted an excellent cross from Faris Hammouti.

The lead wouldn’t last though because Andrejs Ciganiks earned the hosts a draw.

The second place takes place on Tuesday.
