NEC Nijmegen took a step towards the Eredivisie with a 2-0 victory over RKC Waalwijk in the first-leg of their promotion playoff.

The home side came into the playoffs with an unbeaten run of six games and they were clearly confident against RKC.

After only ten minutes, NEC had the lead when Mike Tresór Ndayishimiye lashed the ball into the net. Three minutes later, Jordy Bruijn made it 2-0 with a powerful finish into the roof of the net.

Bruijn had the ball in the net again before the break but this time it was disallowed for offside via VAR. It was the first time the video referee had been used in a promotion playoff.

After the break, RKC looked to get back into the game but they could not halve the deficit. NEC were denied a third before the end for another offside.

The second leg takes place in Waalwijk on Tuesday.
