The Europa League group stage ended for PSV tonight with a 1-0 defeat to Dinamo Moscow at the Philips Stadion.

depdinamoBoth clubs had already qualified for the knockout rounds and with an important Eredivisie clash with FC Twente coming up at the weekend Phillip Cocu decided to rest Georginio Wijnaldum, Luciano Narsingh,Jeffrey Bruma and Luuk de Jong.

However despite the changes PSV were the better side in the opening forty-five minutes, with Memphis Depay and Andres Guardado seeing a lot of the ball, but they could not orchestrate the opening goal. Depay came the closest but his shot from range flew just wide.

The home side continued to dominate after the break, but Dinamo were dangerous on the counter attack and Remko Pasveer had to stop a goal-bound Mathieu Valbuena free-kick.

Georginio Wijnaldum came off the bench with ten minutes to go and the captain could have opened the scoring straight away but his shot struck the post. Just like the match in Moscow earlier in the group, PSV were hit by a late suckerpunch with Aleksei Ionov rounding Pasveer before slotting into the empty net to net a 90th minute winner.

The defeat is PSV’s first at home this season, but it does not change the outcome of the group and the Eindhoven side will still take a place in the draw for the last 32.
