PSV Eindhoven have kept the pressure on Ajax and Feyenoord with a 3-1 win over NEC Nijmegen

With both Ajax and Feyenoord playing away from home on Sunday, PSV had the chance to close the gap on the top two when they welcomed NEC to the Philips Stadion.

After a slow start, PSV took the lead on 20 minutes with Marco van Ginkel netting from the penalty spot after Steven Bergwijn was taken down in the box. However, out of nowhere NEC equalised seven minutes later as Ali Messaoud finished off an excellent counter with a fine finish into the top corner.

PSV remained in control of the match after the setback and just before the hour mark Bart Ramselaar finished from close range after barging through the NEC defence to make it 2-1.

The hosts couldn’t then find the killer third goal and as the match wore on NEC became dangerous and in the 84th minute Dario Dumic thought he had scored the equaliser, but the defender’s goal was ruled out for offside.

PSV got space on the counter and in the 90th minute, Hector Moreno chipped a shot onto the bar before Luuk de Jong saw his follow-up cleared off the line. However, seconds later the win was sealed as De Jong swept in a cross to make it 3-1.

PSV now move level on points with second-placed Ajax who play at Vitesse on Sunday, and five behind Feyenoord who travel to ADO Den Haag.
