PSV Eindhoven has confirmed the signing of Everton defender Jarrad Branthwaite on a season-long loan deal.

The 20-year-old was identified by Marcel Brands, who worked at Everton untl last year. PSV confirmed his signing on Sunday.

Director of football affairs John de Jong told the club’s website, “Because Olivier Boscagli cannot play at least until the winter break, we wanted to add a quality left-footed central defender on a rental basis to the selection. Jarrad meets all those requirements.”

Branthwaite spent last season on loan with Blackburn Rovers but will now look to provide competition for the defence in Ruud van Nistelrooy’s side.

Branthwaite is PSV’s seventh newcomer this summer, after Guus Til, Luuk de Jong, Walter Benítez, Boy Waterman, Ki-Jana Hoever and Xavi Simons.
