PSV Eindhoven booked a much-needed victory on Saturday by hammering Fortuna Sittard 5-0 in the Philips Stadion.

The pressure on Van Bommel’s shoulders increased last week when PSV were held to a 1-1 draw by Emmen. Fortuna headed to Eindhoven looking to continue the hosts rotten form but they were no match for the much-improved PSV.

After only five minutes, Ritsu Doan had the ball in the net but it was ruled out for offside. Four minutes later, Doan did make it 1-0 with a header.

PSV continued to push forward and it was eventually 2-0 in the 26th minute when Donyell Malen slotted in a Michal Sadilek cross. Before the break, Steven Bergwijn was brought down in the box and the winger netted the penalty to make it 3-0.

Five minutes into the second half, Malen was also brought down in the box and this time Mohamed Ihattaren scored the penalty to add a fourth. The midfielder was clearly emotional after his first goal since losing his father.

Ibrahim Afellay was then brought on for his first action of the season and fellow substitute Cody Gakpo added a fifth just before the end to cap an entertaining evening for the home fans.

PSV move back to third while Fortuna are 14th.
