PSV Eindhoven maintain their place at the top of the Eredivisie as they saw off Excelsior 3-0 at the Philips Stadion despite Jeffrey Bruma being sent off.

locadia jndjAfter their late loss in Russia during the week, PSV began the match slowly and Excelsior were allowed to control the possession early on, but without actually creating any clear cut chances.

As the first half wore on PSV began to take control and after 22 minutes Florian Jozefzoon thought he had given them the lead, only for his goal to be disallowed wrongly for offside. However the deadlock was broken after 35 minutes when Adam Maher’s cross evaded everyone in the box and tricked into the bottom corner.

On the stroke of half time it was 2-0 for the hosts as Jurgen Locadia’s goalbound shot was tapped over the line by Luciano Narsingh.

PSV had barely got out of third gear, but it was 3-0 six minutes into the second half when Jozefzoon’s brilliant cut back hit Locadia in the middle and flew into the net. The hosts had to play the last 30 minutes with ten men after Jeffrey Bruma was sent off for a last man challenge, and coach Phillip Cocu was also sent to the stand for his protests.

Excelsior looked for a way back into the match, but PSV defended resolutely and the hosts should have moved further ahead before the end as both Andres Guardado and Rai Vloet squandered good chances to net their first goals for the club.

The three points keeps PSV at the top going into the international break, while Excelsior sit 12th.
